5 Ways You (and Your Pup!) Can Invest In Our Planet
Tomorrow, April 22nd is Earth Day! The theme for Earth Day 2022 is "Invest in Our Planet," so we've put together a list of 5 ways you and your pup can invest in our planet and reduce your ecological impact.
1. Buy Sustainability-Focused Pet Products
Globally, the pet care industry has grown to $261 billion in 2022. That means you have a lot of options when it comes to pet products for your pup. Searching for sustainability-focused pet brands is a great way to reduce your impact on our planet. Brands like Jax & Bones and Skout's Honor create excellent products that won't put extra strain on the environment.
We've partnered with Jax & Bones and Skout's Honor to put together an earth-friendly prize pack for Earth Day.

Meat consumption by pets is a massive source of carbon emissions; meat-eating by cats and dogs is responsible for 64 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. That’s the equivalent of the annual emissions from nearly 14 million cars!
While cats are obligate carnivores and need meat, dogs are omnivores and can survive (and thrive!) on a plant-based diet. Going plant-based can reduce as much as 85% of your carbon emissions.
Wild Earth’s formula ensures your pup gets everything they need in their diet—no meat required. It’s a high protein, high fiber food that contains all the essential nutrients they need to thrive.

3. Use Biodegradable Poop Bags or Compost Your Dog's Waste
Many pet waste bags contain plastics and can end up polluting our earth. Look for poop bags that are biodegradable, which can take only three to six months to decompose. For context, plastics can take hundreds of years to decompose.
If you're willing to go an extra step, composting your dog's waste is the best way to guarantee no additional impact is done on the planet. Plus, you can use the compost to feed flowers, trees, and shrubs.
4. Give Away Your Old Pet Materials
Just because your pup is done with their old toy or leash doesn't mean it belongs in the trash! Donate your old pet gear (leashes, beds, toys, etc.) to animal shelters in your area. You'll be recycling AND making another pup smile - we call that a win-win.
5. Spay/Neuter Your Pets & ADOPT!
Spaying and neutering your pets goes a very long way in preventing unwanted animals from ending up in shelters. Overpopulation of any animal or pet can cause significant impact on our environment, especially when those animals live in the wild.
Did you know bird and mammal mortality caused by outdoor cats is 1.3 to 4.0 billion and 6.3 to 22.3 billion individuals, respectively? It is the single greatest source of human-caused mortality for birds and mammals. Additionally, pet waste from stray animals likely won't be picked up, and can add harmful bacteria and nutrients to local waters.
Another key piece in reducing homeless animals and the overpopulation of shelter pets is to adopt from shelters and rescues instead of buying your pet from breeders.
